Here
is some information about the NovaDreamer that
I gratuitously copied from The
Lucidity Institute's website.
"In the past, lucid dreaming
was limited to a talented few with the necessary
time, concentration, and motivation. Now the NovaDreamer®,
product of over a decade of research by Stephen
LaBerge, Ph.D., world-renowned authority on lucid
dreaming, brings the lucid dream state within
reach of everyone. The NovaDreamer detects when
you're in REM sleep, then gives you a cue (flashing
lights or sounds) to remind you to recognize you're
dreaming. Cues enter your dream, becoming incorporated
just like an alarm or radio will sometimes work
its way into a dream. The workbook provided helps
you prepare your mind to recognize the NovaDreamer's
cue and become lucid."
I
have had a NovaDreamer
for several years now, and it has been a great
tool for me. I do not really use it that much
anymore but in the beginning it was extremely
helpful. It still does comes through in a pinch
so there is no need to write offering to buy it
at half-cost :)
I never wanted to become dependent on it so I
viewed it as an aid like using training wheels
to help learn much faster how to lucid dream .
It also helps if you are weathering a dry spell.
If I am having a lull in my lucid dreaming frequency,
I will don it once more and within a week it will
produce an LD, usually in the morning using the
Wake-Back
to Bed Method.
There
are lots of other ways to become lucid and by
no means do you need to have one, but it
certainly cannot hurt. You STILL need to employ
all of the other techniques as well. It is not
like you just wear this sleep mask to bed and
automatically have lucid dreams. You still have
to train yourself to use it.
I
believe in maximizing all possible avenues
of return not at the expense of each other
but with a combining effect. Check for specials
that are offered on it; I got mine at a student
discount for around $200 through a special that
was being offered, I think it is now around $275
or $225 for Lucidity Institute members. I recommend
joining because they send out a great lucid dreaming
newsletter with recent research amd findings.
Also, you can participate in their ongoing lucid
dream-related experiments. As an added bonus,
if you participate in the experiments, you receive
your next newsletter for free.
Plus,
when you think about it, what is $200 anyway.
I know if you are anything like me you would probably
spend that money on something like food or entertainment
or a book or whatever. Why not invest it in something
which will help you? Why not own something that
can literally help you live out your wildest dreams
fully conscious? It is a wise investment
especially if you are not an experienced dreamer.
Once you reach more advanced levels you may not
need it anymore, but it is always there for you
if you need it and it was helpful along the way.
In
the beginning when I had less ability to induce
and sustain my lucid dreams, I found it very useful
in helping me become more familiar with the
dreaming realm. I highly recommend getting
one, but as I mentioned earlier, you CAN
definitely learn to lucid dream without
one, but as far as training wheels go, they
sure will speed you along your path. They
are more like training wings that can help you
learn the ropes of your nightly dreaming flights.

note: I am not affiliated with The Lucidity Institute.
This is not a sales pitch. It is merely my opinion
based on my experience.
